Our 12.5 hectares of hillside vineyards at 500 m are among the highest in Chianti Classico. At Montefili we have a unique microclimate with the ideal conditions for viticulture: abundant sunlight and fine galestro and alberese soils.
Vine growing by the monks of Badia a Passignano has been documented in this place since 1200. Our contemporary history begins with the replanting of the vineyards between 1975 and 1990 with the native Sangiovese grape and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 2015 a new ownership arrived and entrusted the company's management to oenologist Serena Gusmeri.
Serena expresses the singularity of each type of soil, vineyard and vintage with a low-intervention winemaking that results in unique, refined Sangiovese and Chianti Classico wines.
Serena was involved at the start of the project in 2015, bringing with her a new approach that transformed our wines. With passion and dedication she has directed a series of vineyard interventions to ensure long-term sustainability, ecosystem health and fruit quality — the results of which are reflected in her wines.
Montefili produces Chianti Classico DOCG, Toscana IGT and 'Super Tuscan' wines.
Most of our vineyards are in the Panzano UGA; only the new acquisition in the highest part of the property is in the Montefioralle UGA.
