Visita il sitoIt was 1968 when, thanks to the foresight of a number of Cormòns winegrowers who wished to treasure centuries-old traditions, and passionate vine-growers who maintained from the outset that the future of the vine and of wine lay not in fleeting fashions but in the tenacious enhancement of their own territory, a winery unique for the quality of its wines and initiatives was born: Cantina Produttori Cormòns. Ninety families of winegrowers, aged from 24 to 86, devote themselves with passion and skill to producing wines that are an authentic expression of the character and tradition of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Cantina Produttori Cormòns has developed a production project based on the care of the vineyard, supported by the Quaderno di campagna (field logbook), a meticulous code of conduct for its members. Each member records their own data so as to achieve a consistent and high quality standard of the grapes across all 320 hectares of vineyards. The territory: the Collio is a small crescent-shaped strip facing south, running from Gorizia to Dolegna and bordered to the north by the frontier with Slovenia. Its centre is Cormòns, regarded as the capital of Friulian wine. The gently undulating terrain is characterised by the Cormòns Flysch, made up of alternating sandstone and marl, rich in limestone, potassium and phosphorus, which provide the best humus for hillside viticulture. The Flysch, which crumbles easily, makes necessary the terracing of the hills that has become a hallmark of the Collio landscape. The Friuli D.O.C. zone covers the entire territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The soil is highly varied: the Cormòns–Gradisca countryside to the north consists mainly of calcareous soils rich in mineral compounds, ideal for viticulture; another belt, where alluvial and foothill soils intersect, has Cormòns at its centre and is the home of splendid white wines. The soils of the Isonzo gravels are stony and excellent for both whites and reds.
