Belguardo

Belguardo is the Mazzei family's wine project in the Tuscan Maremma, 10 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Purchased by the Mazzei family in 1997, the property covers a total of 94 hectares, 48 of which under vine. The estate is characterised by multiform, composite soils, partly the result of the breakdown of alberese and macigno stone, while in some areas sandstone prevails. To make the most of this complexity, an intensive vineyard replanting programme was launched immediately after the purchase, with a careful selection of varieties and clones. The vineyards, set between 100 and 180 metres above sea level, face south/south-west and feel the influence of the nearby sea. This creates a perfect microclimate where solar radiation is balanced by constant ventilation: the ideal habitat to give life to wines of unmistakable structure and character.
