Visita il sitoTHE PROJECT
With the consultancy of “the most revolutionary oenologist of the 20th century”, Giacomo Tachis, Aldo Brachetti Peretti bought cuttings of Bordeaux cultivars, had planting layouts traced that are synonymous with quality, and reintroduced, among the first in Italy, concrete tanks for the vinification of great reds.
THE ESTATE
The estate extends for more than 280 hectares in the municipalities of Tolentino and Pollenza, on the Chienti Valley, 30 km from the Adriatic Sea and 40 from the Apennine ridge. It bears the imprint of Count Aldo Brachetti Peretti, from the mid-1980s when he bought a first nucleus, composed of the Sangallesque residence of Cardinal Ascanio Parisani known as La Parisiana, the surrounding lands and woods.
Over the years the estate was progressively expanded, incorporating farmhouses, ancient residences and lands, until it included a good part of the property of the Antici Mattei princes who, from the late 18th century, had owned and divided it, and from whom Count Aldo Brachetti Peretti bought it.
The scene of historic and even bloody events (the Battle of Tolentino on 2 and 3 May 1815 between Joachim Murat and the papal army), today it presents itself as a mild and captivating countryside, cultivated with evident care, great commitment and a constant striving for a production of excellence.
THE PASSION
Wine is made first of all in the vineyard, and to have excellent Bordeaux-style wines one of the secrets is knowing how to choose the right moment for the harvest. Without advance or delay. And then to gather all the grapes in a very short time. Which indeed happens at Il Pollenza, because the bunches reach the cellar from the surrounding vineyards within 15 minutes at most.
THE TECHNIQUE
The wines are vinified in concrete tanks, constantly monitored, then matured separately in barriques; blended just before bottling, they are finally left to age in the bottle for a period that varies from wine to wine.
Times and techniques are established by the oenologist, constantly striving to obtain a balanced wine by balancing acidity, sweetness, tannins and alcohol. Responsible for this pursuit of quality and excellence is today Carlo Ferrini, considered the best winemaker by American critics in 2007, who came to Il Pollenza in that very year, assisted by an in-house oenological team.
A CORNER OF BORDEAUX IN THE MARCHE
Alongside the arable crops are the vineyards of international grapes. A succession of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, but also the native Montepulciano and Ribona. The planting layouts draw attractive geometries and inter-rows that seem like escape routes towards the sky.
Clear in spring, limpid and luminous as in a painting by Canaletto.
Bushes of pink, white and orange roses mark the beginning of the rows: precious sentinels, used to prevent vine diseases, they contribute to the beauty of the place, making the landscape enchanting.
