Borgogno

When a great wine connoisseur hears the word Barolo, it is inevitable that they immediately think of Borgogno. Founded in 1761, it is indeed the most historic winery in Piedmont. Along with this, it also boasts other firsts: in 1861, at the celebratory lunch for the Unification of Italy, a toast was made with Barolo Borgogno; in 1886, the Tsar of all the Russias, Nicholas II Romanov, uncorked a bottle of Barolo Borgogno for the banquet organised in his honour by the House of Savoy. Deciding the winery's fate in 1920 was the genius Cesare Borgogno, who invented the first wine distribution model in Italy, was among the first to make Barolo known around the world, and made the move that would mark its future: he “forgot” 20,000 bottles of every great Barolo vintage.
